Club Day at Kent Campus was filled with great music, delicious sweets and good intentions.
On Jan. 24, Kent Campus cafeteria was packed with clubs looking to recruit and show pride for their recent achievements.
The events lasted for two hours, with students filtering by tables, signing up to join.
The Psychology club and Diversity club hosted a bake sale with profits benefiting the victims of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti. Because of the good will of students and the enticing aroma, their tables sold plenty of cookies and cupcakes.
The Science Technology Engineering Math or S.T.E.M. club, table popped with both static electricity and prospective students hoping to become members.
Next to the S.T.E.M. club table sat the Astronomy club, where Darth Vader sat, light saber in hand, passing out magazines and showing an actual meteorite to students who passed by, and inviting students to join them on their next star gazing session.
Business was booming at the Business club, who was hosting a raffle of a $25 gift card, with tickets for only a quarter.
Other clubs in attendance include the Running Club, Phi Theta Kappa, Student Ambassadors, The Campus Voice, and the Student Government Association.
Kent Campus SGA, along with other Florida State College at Jacksonville student government associations, will be traveling to St. Petersburg, Florida on Feb 12 for their state conference, where legislative issues concerning students will be voted upon.
Amanda Garrigues, a musician hailing from Gainesville, was performing live in the pit. She covered songs by Coldplay as well as songs she had written. Students applauded at the end of her set as she announced that her songs are currently on iTunes.
"There were a lot of students," said Roger French, 21, a student ambassador from Kent Campus.
A new club, which has just started up at North Campus, is currently recruiting members. The Intellectuals is a discussion group for political discourse. Their club founder can be contacted at 904-766-6772 or emailed at theyoungintellectuals@yahoo.com for further information.
